2024 Schedule Announced
Gulls Aim to Defend Title
NEWPORT, RI- On Sunday, January 28, the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) Commissioner's Office released the 2024 Regular Season Schedule. The Newport Gulls will begin their title defense on Tuesday, June 4 as they board the ferry to take on the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks.
2024 will once again feature a 13-team league, divided into three divisions: North, West, & Coastal. Newport are members of the Coastal Division along with in-state rival Ocean State Waves, Mystic Schooners, North Shore Navigators, and Martha’s Vineyard Sharks. Each of the other two divisions has four teams, while the Coastal has five.
Consistent with previous seasons, teams will play a 44-game schedule in which teams will play each of their divisional opponents seven times. Coastal Teams will play each non-division opponent twice, once at home and once on the road, while teams in the North Division and West Division will play non-divisional opponents three times apiece.
Newport’s home opener will be played on Wednesday, June 5 against the Vermont Mountaineers. Opening Night is always a special occasion, but this year will include a trophy and banner presentation as the Gulls celebrate their seventh Fay Vincent Sr. Cup victory in 2023.
2024 will follow suit with the Gulls perennial home schedule of playing games at Historic Cardines Field on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, except for five (5) dates.
Newport is OFF on Wednesday, July 3, but will host the Keene Swamp Bats on the following night, Thursday, July 4.
The remaining four (4) dates of note all come on consecutive dates, July 26 through July 29. Newport is away on Friday, July 26 for their final visit to Marth’s Vineyard, and will host two home games on Saturday, July 27 & Sunday, July 28 against the Ocean State Waves.
Sunday, 7/28 will mark the final regular season home game, subject to change due to weather or other circumstances. Newport travels to Fitch High School on Monday, July 29 to take on the Mystic Schools for their 44th regular season game of the season.
New for 2024, the NECBL will be celebrating “Inclusion Week” to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as the organizations that benefit these groups. Each team in the league will host an “Inclusion Night” to celebrate this wonderful group in their respective communities. In partnership with TD Bank, the Newport Gulls have presented an Inclusion Night each of the past couple seasons and will look forward to another special night during this year’s “Inclusion Week”.
It will be the Bristol Blues year to host the NECBL All-Star Game, presenting this event on Sunday, July 21 at Muzzy Field. Newport has two off-days after the ASG before returning to action at Cardines against the Marth’s Vineyard Sharks on Wed. July 24.
Newport comes off two record-breaking seasons, tying and then surpassing their regular season record for wins in 2022 and 2023. It was Newport’s 30 wins in 2013 that had been the previous record before capturing 31 victories last season.
It is the organization's goal to continue to build off last season’s success on the field, but it is most important to the Gulls Board of Directors to benefit the community and achieve off-field success with programming and charitable efforts.

The Newport Gulls, members of the 13-team New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded as the Rhode Island Gulls in 1998 in Cranston, R.I., before moving to Newport in 2001. In addition to recruiting, fielding, and developing a team of the nation’s top collegiate baseball athletes and attracting 50,000 fans annually to Cardines Field, the predominantly volunteer organization strives to benefit the community via summer camps, reading programs, fundraisers, scholarships, and charitable donations – totaling over $1 million since 2001. The Gulls are six-time champions of the NECBL – the winningest franchise in league history – and were ranked as the overall No. 1 summer collegiate baseball team in the country by Perfect Game USA in 2012.
