The Newport Gulls 2025/26 Internship Application Period is now OPEN! 

The Newport Gulls Internship Program has evolved over the years, providing college students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a variety of sports, media, and business-related fields. Interns can expect to learn the many facets of running a non-profit summer collegiate baseball team, from day-to-day sports management and baseball operations to marketing and community relations, to media and public relations, to organizing special events throughout the season. 

Winter/Spring Interns will focus on the planning and execution of fundraisers and events held in the Spring, along with the initial planning and preparation for the 2026 Summer Season. Although continuing the internship is recommended throughout the Summer if interning in the Winter/ Spring, it is not required, and being asked back will be contingent on performance.  

Typical Summer internship commitments run from Mid-May through Mid-August, involving a combination of office hours, community involvement, and mandatory attendance at ALL home games. Many of our interns have gone on to successful careers in their chosen field, including full-time positions with the Red Sox, Providence Bruins, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, and countless other franchises and companies! 

Newport Gulls Internships are UNPAID and HOUSING IS NOT PROVIDED! Interns can apply for credit from their respective colleges and universities. Local universities such as Roger Williams University and Salve Regina University can assist in housing accommodations in SOME OF, BUT NOT ALL situations.  

 

The positions listed below will be filled on a rolling basis. The descriptions outlined serve as a brief introduction to the roles and responsibilities that coincide with and highlight each position, but interns should be expected to assist wherever management sees fit and flexibility within these situations is a must. MOREOVER, all interns will be responsible for stadium maintenance, setup, breakdown, and overall cleanliness. 

 

MEDIA: In addition to the operational positions listed below, the Gulls Broadcast Network is second to none in summer collegiate baseball. With six (6) cameras located throughout the stadium, the Gulls broadcast worldwide through ESPN+ in high definition. The team's PLAY-BY-PLAY BROADCASTER position is available along with many supporting Media Operations Coordinator roles.  

ATHLETIC TRAINING INTERN: The Gulls will be seeking one (1) Athletic Training Intern. Applications for this role should be submitted in the same fashion as all other positions.

Assistant Director of Baseball Operations 

Full Time Position 

Grade Preference: Rising Junior+ 

Aquidneck Island/Rhode Island Residency Preferred  

  

Intro: The Assistant Director of Baseball Operations is an all-inclusive internship that will provide the individual selected with skills and experience unparalleled to any position within the industry. As the Assistant Director of Baseball Operations, you will be privy to all the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Baseball Operations, serving directly under the Director and Gulls General Manager. Working 40+ hours per week, the Assistant Director of Baseball Operations' focus will be assisting in the construction of specific and unique Game Nights and additional events in conjunction with Gulls sponsors and partners. There will also be a management aspect of this position, responsible for overseeing and collaborating with fellow interns in their day-to-day activities. Applicants should be prepared to learn the inner workings of a sports franchise as well as a non-profit organization. This is an extremely vital position for the success of the team which will require the exceptional leadership and communication skills, abilities to multi-task and perform under pressure, and use time management skills wisely.  

A strong candidate has exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a desire to pursue a career in the world of sports. The Assistant Director of Baseball Operations will be involved in, but not limited to: Event Management, Sponsorship Relations, Sales & Marketing, Intern Management, Facilities Management, and more.

Director of Community Relations 

Full Time Position

Intro: As a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, the Gulls strive to give back to the community in multiple capacities. Through Summer Camp & College Scholarships, Elementary School Reading Programs, Middle School Health & Wellness Programs, Team Appearances, In-Kind Donations, Monetary Contributions, Fundraising Events, and Additional Charitable Giving, the Gulls have contributed over $1,000,000 back into the community since the team’s inception 

  

It is the Director of Community Relations to plan, administer, and maintain all the Gulls programming outlined above. The Director of Community Relations works very closely with the Assistant Director of Baseball Operations and the Summer Camp Coordinator.   

  

A Director of Community Relations will be responsible for attending all Gulls-related events in the community. These events will be scheduled for various times of the day and will require a flexible schedule to represent the Newport Gulls properly. The Director of Community Relations is a full-time position, required to be at each of the Gulls home games in addition to these community events- often working more hours than a normal full-time allotment of 40 hours.   

  

An outgoing and personable individual who understands the important role the Gulls plan for the community of Aquidneck Island will be selected for this position.

Baseball Operations Manager 

Full Time Position 

Grade Preference: Rising Junior+ 

Rhode Island Residency Preferred 

  

Intro: The Newport Gulls recruit and develop the Major League Stars of Tomorrow. That said, it is the organization’s responsibility to provide a Major League experience to its players and fans. The Baseball Operations Manager is involved in all team operations and will work in conjunction with the Director & Assistant Director of Baseball Operations. This position entails strong attention to detail and an understanding of the game of baseball. It will involve the preparation of league-mandated documents and baseball-specific information utilized by management and the coaching staff. Additionally, the Baseball Operations Manager will be responsible for operating the TrackMan radars and Synergy Sports camera system. This individual will be responsible for running both systems for all home games.  

Experience with both or one of the systems is preferred but not mandatory. Training for each will be provided prior to starting the position but advanced knowledge of baseball is a must. Computer and technical skills are also a requirement, with the ability to communicate effectively and work through any issues should they arise. This position serves as a liaison to each company and will need to be available on non-game days to fulfill any requests made by TrackMan and/or Synergy. Attendance for all home games and playoffs is mandatory but there are no office hours required for this position unless specifically requested by Gulls leadership 

A student who has completed a minimum of two years at their College / University with an ability to independently and on deadline will be considered for this position. Students should also have an advanced interest and knowledge of baseball as well as organization skills.

Group Volunteer Director 

Full Time Position 

Grade Preference: Rising Junior+ 

Aquidneck Island/Rhode Island Residency Preferred 

  

Intro: A hybrid Marketing & Community Relations position, the Group Volunteer Director works directly with the Gulls 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization partners. The Gulls strive to support as many fellow non-profit organizations as possible throughout the season, creating the Group Volunteer Program as a mutually beneficial opportunity to raise awareness and funding. It is the duty of the Group Volunteer Director to SCHEDULE AND MANAGE non-profit organizations for each of the Gulls home games. Group Volunteer's duties include ripping tickets, handing out the night’s promotional items and game day programs, managing the flow of traffic, and additional basic tasks. In return for this group’s assistance, they are permitted to raise money and awareness for their cause or charity via a 50/50 Raffle administered throughout the game.   

As a Group Volunteer Director, your role will require exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. An individual who would like to pursue a career in management is a good candidate for this position. Attendance at all Newport Gulls Home Games is required along with limited office hours and availabilities for meetings throughout the summer

Ballpark Operations Manager (FILLED) 

Full Time Position

Intro: The Ballpark Operations Manager’s main objective is to make sure that the ballpark is ready for a Newport Gulls game for all 22 home games and playoffs.   

  

Cardines Field is arguably the oldest ballpark in America. The field is a city-owned facility with many users. Over the course of the summer, the field is used EVERY DAY by teams and leagues other than the Newport Gulls. However, the Gulls are the most prominent user. Since there are so many games on the field, it is imperative that the Gulls spend ample time working on the field and ballpark to make sure it is ready for future major leaguers, scouts, VIP, and fans alike.   

  

As the Ballpark Operations Manager, you must uphold a tremendous work ethic and desire to learn how to operate a baseball stadium. The Ballpark Operations Manager will be working with their hands and needs to take pride in the presentation of Cardines Field throughout the summer.

Ticket Booth/Financial Manager 

Part Time Position 

Grade Preference: Rising Junior+ 

  

Intro: Financial Operations are what make any organization tick. Operating as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, it is vital to monitor the money coming in and out in a particular fashion. Working directly under the Treasurer of the Newport Gulls and the Director of  Operations, the Ticket Booth/Financial Manager must have a passion for numbers and the ability to prepare corresponding documentation.  

The Gulls have three major sources of revenue at Cardines Field: Tickets, Souvenirs, & Concessions. Each operation has a specific accounting process that must be followed to keep everything organized throughout the summer.    

  

A strong candidate for this position will have had experience in a similar capacity prior to applying to the Newport Gulls. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and strong attention to detail and organizational skills is mandatory for this position.   

  

This role will prepare you for a career in Sports Management along with Business, Accounting, and Finance positions.

 Assistant Operations Coordinator(s)

Intro: Each Newport Gulls Home Game is its own individual event. Every game has a sponsor that the Gulls Staff works with to create a fun and unique theme. These themes consist of Military Appreciation Night, Little League Night, Star Wars Night, and many others. The Newport Gulls have become synonymous for Family- Friendly Entertainment and providing a robust Pre-Game Ceremony. One of the ways that the Gulls create these themes and present a professional Pre-Game Ceremony is by working in conjunction with gameday sponsors as well as local and non-local organizations to provide the most enhanced game experience as possible. 

These members will be required to assist the Director of Gameday Operations, On-Field MC, and the rest of the Newport Gulls Staff when needed. This includes tasks such as helping set-up the ballpark, assisting the grounds crew, administer on-field in-between inning games, work with the mascots, execute the post-game meal, and other miscellaneous tasks that should arise on game days.  

Strong candidates for this position will demonstrate exceptional communication and organizational skills, as well as creativity and management skills. This individual will gain valuable experience in Sales & Marketing, Event Management, Written and Verbal Skills, Operations, & Management, and Marketing among other areas.

Official Scorer 

Part Time Position 

Grade Preference: Rising Sophomore+ 

  

The Newport Gulls are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Official Scorer to join our team for the summer season. As the Official Scorer, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate recording of game statistics and providing essential support for the NECBL, media, players, and fans. 

The Official Scorer will accurately record and score all plays during each game, electronically as well as physically in written form, to maintain comprehensive game logs and box scores, ensuring timely updates throughout each game. Collaboration with the Scoreboard Operator and other Gulls staff will be necessary to clarify scoring decisions as needed. You will also communicate with the media team to provide accurate game information and statistics for reports and broadcasts. After each game, the Official Scorer will review and verify post-game statistics for accuracy and completeness.  

Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of baseball rules, scoring methods, and statistical terminology. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with scoring software and digital platforms used for game statistics, is a plus. Previous experience scoring baseball games is preferred.

Summer Camp Director 

Part Time Position 

Grade Preference: Rising Junior+ 

Aquidneck Island/Rhode Island Residency Preferred 

  

Intro: Summer Camp is an extremely popular and important aspect of the Newport Gulls Organization. Camp runs for four (4) individual four-day sessions June-July. It is held at three (3) locations on Aquidneck Island from 9:00am- 12:00pm. Gulls players serve as the camp’s instructors which is an experience of a lifetime for the children in attendance. The main objective of your position is to facilitate the Newport Gulls Youth Summer Camp. This position is vital to the success of this operation and will involve your coordination and communication with many members of the Newport Gulls Front Office & Staff.   

  

As the Summer Camp Coordinator, you are completely in charge of all communications with parents, coaches, little leagues, and sponsors. Although the camps are a paid program, the Newport Gulls have a robust Summer Camp Scholarship Fund that this position will also oversee. Although Summer Camp does not run for the entirety of the regular season, this position includes long days and travel to and from the various locations around Aquidneck Island. Daily monitoring of registrations is required, along with daily communication so there will be remote work that coincides with this position.

Inventory & Retail Operations Coordinator  

Part Time Position 

Grade Preference: Rising Junior+ 

  

Intro: Working with the Gulls Treasurer, Director of Souvenirs, Director of Baseball Operations, Financial Operations Intern, and volunteer souvenir stand staff, the Newport Gulls will rely on the Inventory & Retail Operations Coordinator to control the stock of all team-related apparel and for-sale items. The main objective of this position will be to complete regular and detailed inventories for all the Newport Gulls apparel assets. 

  

The role of Inventory & Retail Operations Manager will require very high attention to detail and familiarity with Excel. The desire to work in a fast-paced environment where decisions impact the organization’s overall financial status is also a requirement for this position. This individual will be someone who enjoys a challenge, tasked with maintaining tens of thousands of dollars of items- a lot of responsibility. 

  

As the Inventory & Retail Operations Manager, attendance will be required for all (22) Newport Gulls Home Games as well as attendance at pre-scheduled staff meetings. Weekly inventory reviews will need to be conducted but this is a part-time position and will not require daily office hours.

Marketing & Social Media Director 

Full Time Position

Intro: The Newport Gulls are one of the most popular summer collegiate baseball franchises in the country. With a global following, the Marketing & Social Media Manager is responsible for promoting the Gulls while keeping everyone informed on all things Gulls. Utilizing both traditional and online marketing strategies, this role will work directly with the Gulls' Media Director and will require extensive knowledge of baseball, graphic design, and the ability to anticipate marketing opportunities that will arise throughout the season. As the Gulls Marketing & Social Media Manager, this individual will work across many different departments such as Public Relations, Sponsor Account Management, Baseball Operations, and Media, in addition to Marketing.   

A strong candidate for this position will have experience working with the main Social Media Platforms in a professional setting along with a comprehensive understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite and other graphic design platforms.

 Assistant Social Media Coordinator/Graphic Designer

Intro: The Newport Gulls have a strong online presence and a large fan base. The organization is very active on social media and distributes a wide array of print media. Working in conjunction with the Gulls Marketing & Social Media Director, the Gulls are seeking an Assistant Social Media Coordinator/Graphic Design Intern to create content throughout the summer. Extensive knowledge and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite or comparable design programs are required 

An ability to work on deadline, often with quick turnaround times, and manage multiple projects at once will be skills needed to be successful in this position, preparing the individual for the next stop on their professional journey. Excellent attention to detail and strong interpersonal and organizational skills along with a willingness to accept constructive criticism is key attributes necessary for this position and will create a mutually beneficial relationship throughout the summer.   

  

Graphics will be used for social media and print purposes and credit will be given for all work created.  

  

This position is a part-time role and will require attendance at departmental meetings, but most of the work can be completed remotely. Attendance at Home Games is highly recommended but not required for this position.

Photo & Video Coordinator(s) 

Part Time Position

Intro: The Newport Gulls Photo & Video Intern is responsible for capturing key moments of Gulls Baseball and Events to tell a story of the season through pictures. There will be two Photo & Video Interns that will build portfolios throughout the season of the many aspects of the Gulls organization, working on season-long projects while accumulating breathtaking images.   

Pictures and videos will be utilized for social media, publications, trading cards, gifts, and many other purposes.   

 

It is key to have a knowledge and passion for baseball, with the ability to anticipate the next big play, positioning yourself in the ballpark accordingly.   

  

In addition to baseball photography, the Gulls are continually ranked among the most highly attended summer collegiate baseball teams in the country and play at an extremely historic ballpark – Cardines Field. Highlighting the fan experience and uniqueness of the stadium will also be a focus of the Photo & Video Intern throughout the season  

  

A high level of professionalism, the ability to carry out tasks with accuracy, efficiency, reliability, and attention to detail as well as the ability to coordinate other members of the Gulls staff will be the qualities looked for in a candidate.   

  

Familiarity with the Adobe Suite and Photo/ Video Editing Software is a bonus but not required for this position.   

  

This position is a part-time role and will require attendance for all Newport Gulls Home Games with projects and tasks to be completed on non-game days remotely or in the office.
