Got a Gull? The Newport Gulls need host families
The Gulls are searching for additional host families for 2014 players
NEWPORT, R.I. – The Newport Gulls are looking for new host families to take into their homes the Major League Stars of Tomorrow for the 2014 summer season.
The Newport Gulls host family program is the foundation on which the Newport Gulls family is built. Our host families have opened their homes to our players who have come from all over the country for the summer in hopes of chasing their dreams of becoming Major League Baseball players. We are so thankful to have such wonderful families that give our players and coaches the same care and attention that they give their own children. The relationships that are forged between our players and their hosts are memorable, and will last a lifetime.
On behalf of the Newport Gulls organization, our players and their respective families, we thank all of the area residents who have opened their homes and brought the word “family” to the Newport Gulls Baseball Club.
In addition to the rewards of forming a life-long relationship with a player, the Newport Gulls thank their host families with a very special free Host Family Package, including all of the following:
– 2014 season passes for all family members
– Kids can attend all Summer Camps for free
– Host family T-shirts for kids
– Host family, team and parent barbeque on July 1 at Kempenaar’s Clambake Club
– Host Family Recognition Night and barbeque at Cardines Field on August 1
– Invited to team-related special events, including an invitation to march with the Gulls at the 375th Anniversary Celebration Parade on June 21
– Game day bat boys and bat girls are designated for host families, and are permitted to sit in the dugout with the team
– Most importantly, the opportunity to meet and get to know one of the Gulls – great role models and potential Major League Baseball players
“Our host family program is the foundation that the team is built on,” said General Manager Chuck Paiva. “It all starts with our host families, and without them it would not be possible to operate the team. Year to year, we will lose host families for various reasons, and we get new families interested in the program, as well.
Paiva continued, “The foundational influence and support of our host families is a key reasons for the Gulls being considered the premier summer collegiate baseball team in the country. My own family has been a Gulls host family for the last 13 years. My kids have grown up with the Gulls as part of their lives each summer. The positive experience and impact hosting these outstanding young gentlemen has had on my own family is immeasurable.”
If your family is interested in becoming a host family for the 2014 summer season, email General Manager Chuck Paiva at gm@newportgulls.com for more information or call 401-849-4982.
The Newport Gulls, members of the 12-team New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded as the Rhode Island Gulls in 1998 in Cranston, R.I., before moving to Newport in 2001. In addition to recruiting, fielding, and developing a team of the nation’s top collegiate baseball athletes and attracting 50,000 fans annually to Cardines Field, the predominantly volunteer organization strives to benefit the youth of Newport County via summer camps, reading programs, fundraisers, scholarships, and charitable donations – totaling nearly $1 million since 2001. The Gulls are five-time champions of the NECBL – the winningest franchise in league history – and were ranked as the overall No. 1 summer collegiate baseball team in the country by Perfect Game USA in 2012.
